About

Hey. My name is Jeremy. I live in Durham, NC.

Once upon a time, I got all my Durham news from a couple of blogs: Bull City Rising, Dependable Erection, and a few others that seemed to fade away more quickly. There are still several good food blogs like Carpe Durham, but there’s not been anything that I feel really presented the “news” I wanted.

So, fast forward a few years. Now it seems like I’ve got to pick apart at least a dozen sources to get the details I want on what’s going on: neighborhood mailing lists, PAC lists, WRAL, the Durham News and Observer, regional subreddits, Duke’s student newspaper, Durham city web sites, the Indy, individual Twitter accounts… and wow, the signal to noise ratio is terrible.

So here’s the deal I’m offering you readers: I’m going to sift through that mountain of stuff, and when I find something about Durham or state politics that interests me, I’m going to post it here. I will not do anything resembling journalism; I am an aggregator of the work others have done. More often than not, I’ll tell you what I think about what I post, since I happen to be kind of opinionated. Your interests may not align with mine, and your opinions quite often will not, but hopefully I can at least give you a shortcut to finding some important things you might otherwise miss.

I will continue to do this as long as it amuses me, and exactly no longer.

  1. I’ve been enjoying your take on the Durham “news” you wanted. To the point that I put you on my blogroll. Since no-one reads my blog (yet!), I trust you will be suitably un-impressed by that fact :)

Secretly hoping you’ll post an overview on status of the American Tobacco Trail extension project in south Durham (particularly the pedestrian bridge over I40 that I think I’ve spied bulldozers doing some prep for over the past few weeks.)

  2. I’m glad someone’s picking up the slack. It’s a lot of work, with not a lot of reward.

    Looking forward to reading more!

    • Luckily, being snarky is its own reward!

Thanks for the encouragement. I’m unlikely to ever aspire to the levels of dedication you and Kevin displayed, but I figured I’d see what I could do.

  4. I was excited to find your site tonight. Great stuff – definitely filling a niche left by BCR (I still check that site every now and then to see if he’s back). I appreciate what you’re doing!
