The second Escapist Expo is this weekend

Do you like video games?

Well, um, you should probably stop reading this post. Go get your pets blessed or something and check back in later.

… OK! Now that all of those squares are gone, I’m going to remind you cool kids that the second annual Escapist Expo is coming up this very weekend.

Last year I was surprised to learn that The Escapist is an actual web site, and not just a video hosting service for Ben “Yahtzee” Croshaw’s Zero Punctuation series. They have articles! It turns out it’s actually pretty neat! Best of all, they’re based right here in Durham, which is probably one of the reasons they like to have their convention in Durham.

Anyway, the word on the street is that last year’s convention was pretty cool, but the venue wasn’t quite up to the challenge, and they suffered from typical “first year” convention problems. This year they’re hoping to address some of those issues by spreading out across multiple sites downtown:

Escapist Expo will incorporate the Durham Convention Center, the historic Carolina Theater, and Durham Armory for all regular scheduled programming. The Saturday Night Shindig, headlining Gavin “Miracle of Sound” Dunne, will be held at the critically acclaimed MOTORCO Music Hall, just blocks from the rest of the action.

Sounds pretty swell to me! Tickets for a single day are twenty bucks a pop, and you can score a three-day pass for forty bucks.
